Chapter 20

1 It came1961 to pass after310 this3651 also, that the children1121 of Moab,4124 and the children1121 of Ammon,5983 and with them other beside the Ammonites,5984 came935 against5921 Jehoshaphat3092 to battle.4421

2 Then there came935 some that told5046 Jehoshaphat,3092 saying,559 There comes935 a great7227 multitude1995 against5921 you from beyond5676 the sea3220 on this side Syria;758 and, behold,2009 they be in Hazazontamar,2688 which1958 is Engedi.5872

3 And Jehoshaphat3092 feared,3372 and set5414 himself6440 to seek1875 the LORD,3068 and proclaimed7121 a fast6685 throughout5921 all3605 Judah.3063

4 And Judah3063 gathered6908 themselves together, to ask1245 help5826 of the LORD:3068 even1571 out of all3605 the cities5892 of Judah3063 they came935 to seek1245 the LORD.3068

5 And Jehoshaphat3092 stood5975 in the congregation6951 of Judah3063 and Jerusalem,3389 in the house1004 of the LORD,3068 before6440 the new2319 court,2691

6 And said,559 O LORD3068 God430 of our fathers,1 are not you God430 in heaven?8064 and rule4910 not you over all3605 the kingdoms4467 of the heathen?1471 and in your hand3027 is there not power3581 and might,1369 so that none369 is able to withstand3320 you?

7 Are not you our God,430 who did drive3423 out the inhabitants3427 of this2063 land776 before6440 your people5971 Israel,3478 and gave5414 it to the seed2233 of Abraham85 your friend157 for ever?5769

8 And they dwelled3427 therein, and have built1129 you a sanctuary4720 therein for your name,8034 saying,559

9 If,518 when evil7451 comes935 on us, as the sword,2719 judgment,8196 or pestilence,1698 or famine,7458 we stand5975 before6440 this2088 house,1004 and in your presence,6440 (for your name8034 is in this2088 house,1004) and cry2199 to you in our affliction,6869 then you will hear8085 and help.3467

10 And now,6258 behold,2009 the children1121 of Ammon5983 and Moab4124 and mount2022 Seir,8165 whom834 you would not let Israel3478 invade,935 when they came935 out of the land776 of Egypt,4714 but they turned5493 from them, and destroyed8045 them not;

11 Behold,2009 I say, how they reward1580 us, to come935 to cast1644 us out of your possession,3425 which834 you have given us to inherit.3423

12 O our God,430 will you not judge8199 them? for we have no369 might3581 against6440 this2088 great7227 company1995 that comes935 against5921 us; neither3808 know3045 we what4100 to do:6213 but our eyes5869 are on you.

13 And all3605 Judah3063 stood5975 before6440 the LORD,3068 with their little2945 ones, their wives,802 and their children.1121

14 Then on Jahaziel3166 the son1121 of Zechariah,2148 the son1121 of Benaiah,1141 the son1121 of Jeiel,3273 the son1121 of Mattaniah,4983 a Levite3881 of the sons1121 of Asaph,623 came1961 the Spirit7307 of the LORD3068 in the middle8432 of the congregation;6951

15 And he said,559 Listen7181 you, all3605 Judah,3063 and you inhabitants3427 of Jerusalem,3389 and you king4428 Jehoshaphat,3092 Thus3541 said559 the LORD3068 to you, Be not afraid3372 nor408 dismayed2865 by reason6440 of this2088 great7227 multitude;1995 for the battle4421 is not yours, but God's.430

16 To morrow4279 go3381 you down3381 against5921 them: behold,2009 they come5927 up by the cliff4608 of Ziz;6732 and you shall find4672 them at the end5490 of the brook,5158 before6440 the wilderness4057 of Jeruel.3385

17 You shall not need to fight3898 in this2063 battle: set3320 yourselves, stand5975 you still, and see7200 the salvation3444 of the LORD3068 with you, O Judah3063 and Jerusalem:3389 fear3372 not, nor408 be dismayed;2865 to morrow4279 go3318 out against6440 them: for the LORD3068 will be with you.

18 And Jehoshaphat3092 bowed6915 his head with his face639 to the ground:776 and all3605 Judah3063 and the inhabitants3427 of Jerusalem3389 fell5307 before6440 the LORD,3068 worshipping7812 the LORD.3068

19 And the Levites,3881 of the children1121 of the Kohathites,6956 and of the children1121 of the Korhites,7145 stood6965 up to praise1984 the LORD3068 God430 of Israel3478 with a loud1419 voice6963 on high.4605

20 And they rose7925 early7925 in the morning,1242 and went3318 forth3318 into the wilderness4057 of Tekoa:8620 and as they went3318 forth,3318 Jehoshaphat3092 stood5975 and said,559 Hear8085 me, O Judah,3063 and you inhabitants3427 of Jerusalem;3389 Believe539 in the LORD3068 your God,430 so shall you be established;539 believe539 his prophets,5030 so shall you prosper.6743

21 And when he had consulted3289 with the people,5971 he appointed5975 singers7891 to the LORD,3068 and that should praise1984 the beauty1927 of holiness,6944 as they went3318 out before6440 the army,2502 and to say,559 Praise3034 the LORD;3068 for his mercy2617 endures for ever.5769

22 And when6256 they began2490 to sing7440 and to praise,8416 the LORD3068 set5414 ambushes693 against5921 the children1121 of Ammon,5983 Moab,4124 and mount2022 Seir,8165 which were come935 against Judah;3063 and they were smitten.5062

23 For the children1121 of Ammon5983 and Moab4124 stood5975 up against5921 the inhabitants3427 of mount2022 Seir,8165 utterly to slay2763 and destroy8045 them: and when they had made an end3615 of the inhabitants3427 of Seir,8165 every376 one helped5826 to destroy4889 another.7453

24 And when Judah3063 came935 toward5921 the watch4707 tower in the wilderness,4057 they looked6437 to the multitude,1995 and, behold,2009 they were dead6297 bodies6297 fallen5307 to the earth,776 and none369 escaped.6413

25 And when Jehoshaphat3092 and his people5971 came935 to take962 away the spoil7998 of them, they found4672 among them in abundance7230 both riches7399 with the dead6297 bodies,6297 and precious2530 jewels,3627 which they stripped5337 off for themselves, more than369 they could carry4853 away: and they were three7969 days3117 in gathering962 of the spoil,7998 it was so much.7227

26 And on the fourth7243 day3117 they assembled6950 themselves in the valley6010 of Berachah;1294 for there8033 they blessed1288 the LORD:3068 therefore5921 3651 the name8034 of the same1931 place4725 was called,7121 The valley6010 of Berachah,1294 to this2088 day.3117

27 Then they returned,7725 every3605 man376 of Judah3063 and Jerusalem,3389 and Jehoshaphat3092 in the forefront7218 of them, to go7725 again7725 to Jerusalem3389 with joy;8057 for the LORD3068 had made them to rejoice8055 over their enemies.341

28 And they came935 to Jerusalem3389 with psalteries5035 and harps3658 and trumpets2689 to the house1004 of the LORD.3068

29 And the fear6343 of God430 was on5921 all3605 the kingdoms4467 of those countries,776 when they had heard8085 that the LORD3068 fought3898 against5973 the enemies341 of Israel.3478

30 So the realm4438 of Jehoshaphat3092 was quiet:8252 for his God430 gave him rest5117 round5439 about.

31 And Jehoshaphat3092 reigned4427 over5921 Judah:3063 he was thirty7970 and five2568 years8141 old1121 when he began to reign,4427 and he reigned4427 twenty6242 and five2568 years8141 in Jerusalem.3389 And his mother's517 name8034 was Azubah5806 the daughter1323 of Shilhi.7977

32 And he walked3212 in the way1870 of Asa609 his father,25 and departed5493 not from it, doing6213 that which was right3477 in the sight5869 of the LORD.3068

33 However, the high1116 places were not taken5493 away:5493 for as yet5750 the people5971 had not prepared3559 their hearts3824 to the God430 of their fathers.1

34 Now the rest3499 of the acts1697 of Jehoshaphat,3092 first7223 and last,314 behold,2009 they are written3789 in the book1697 of Jehu3058 the son1121 of Hanani,2607 who834 is mentioned5927 in the book5612 of the kings4428 of Israel.3478

35 And after310 this3651 did Jehoshaphat3092 king4428 of Judah3063 join2266 himself with Ahaziah274 king4428 of Israel,3478 who1931 did6213 very wickedly:7561

36 And he joined2266 himself with him to make6213 ships591 to go3212 to Tarshish:8659 and they made6213 the ships591 in Eziongaber.6100

37 Then Eliezer461 the son1121 of Dodavah1735 of Mareshah4762 prophesied5012 against5921 Jehoshaphat,3092 saying,559 Because you have joined2266 yourself with Ahaziah,274 the LORD3068 has broken6555 your works.4639 And the ships591 were broken,7665 that they were not able6113 to go3212 to Tarshish.8659

2 І прийшли, і доне́сли Йосафатові, говорячи: „Прийшла на тебе сила силенна з того боку моря, з Сирії, і ось вони в Хаццон-Тамарі, воно — Ен-Ґеді“.

3 І злякався Йосафа́т, і постановив зверну́тися до Господа. І він проголосив піст на всю Юдею.

4 І зібралися юде́яни просити допомоги від Господа, також поприхо́дили зо всіх Юдиних міст просити Господа.

5 І став Йосафа́т у зборі Юдиному та єрусали́мському в Господньому домі, перед нови́м подві́р'ям,

6 та й сказав: „Господи, Боже батьків наших! Чи ж не Ти Бог на небеса́х? І Ти пануєш над усіма́ царствами наро́дів, і в руці Твоїй — сила та міць, і немає такого, хто б став проти Тебе!

7 Чи ж не Ти, Боже наш, повиганя́в ме́шканців цього Кра́ю перед наро́дом Твоїм, Ізраїлем, і дав його Авраамовому насінню, Твоє́му при́ятелеві навіки?

8 І вони осілися в ньому, і збудували Тобі в ньому святиню для Ймення Твого, говорячи:

9 Якщо при́йде на нас зло, — меч укара́ння, чи морови́ця, чи голод, то ми станемо перед цим храмом та перед лицем Твоїм, бо Ім'я́ Твоє в цьому храмі, і бу́демо кли́кати до Тебе з нашого у́тиску, — і Ти почуєш, і спасеш.

10 А тепер ось сини Аммонові й Моавові та ме́шканці гори́ Сеїр, що через них Ти не дав ізра́їльтянам іти, коли вони вихо́дили були з єгипетського кра́ю, і вони минули їх, і не ви́губили їх,

11 і оце вони відплачують нам нава́лою, щоб вигнати нас із спа́дку Твого, який Ти віддав нам.

12 Боже наш, чи ж Ти не осу́диш їх? Нема бо в нас сили перед цією силою силе́нною, що прихо́дить на нас, і ми не знаємо, що́ зробимо, бо наші очі — на Тебе!“

13 А всі юде́яни стояли перед Господнім лицем, також діти їхні, жінки їхні та їхні сини.

15 і він сказав: „Послухайте, ввесь Юдо й ме́шканці Єрусалиму та ца́рю Йосафате! Так говорить до вас Господь: Не бійтеся та не жахайтеся перед цією силе́нною силою, бо не ваша ця війна, але Божа!

16 Узавтра зійдіть на них, — ось вони входять збі́ччям Ціцу, і ви їх зна́йдете на кінці долини, навпроти пустині Єруїл.

17 Не вам воювати в цьому, — поставтеся й станьте, і побачите, що Господнє спасі́ння з вами, Юдо й Єрусалиме! Не бійтеся й не жахайтеся, — узавтра вихо́дьте перед них, а Господь буде з вами!“

18 І вклонився Йосафат обличчям до землі, а ввесь Юда та ме́шканці Єрусалиму попа́дали перед Господнім лицем, щоб уклони́тися Господе́ві.

19 І встали Левити з синів Кегатівців та з синів Корахівців, щоб хвалити Господа, Бога Ізраїлевого сильним голосом, високим.

20 І повставали вони рано вранці, і вийшли до пустині Текоя. А як вони вихо́дили, став Йосафа́т та й сказав: „Послухайте мене, Юдо та ме́шканці Єрусалиму! Віруйте в Господа, вашого Бога, і будете запе́внені, — ві́рте пророкам Його, і пощасти́ться вам!“

21 І радився він з наро́дом, і поставив співакі́в для Господа, і вони хвалили вели́чність святости, коли йшли перед озбро́єними, і говорили: „Дякуйте Господу, бо навіки Його милосе́рдя!“

22 А того ча́су, коли зачали́ вони співати та хвалити, дав Господь за́сідку на синів Аммонових і Моавових та на ме́шканців гори Сеїр, що прийшли були проти Юди, — і були вони побиті,

23 бо повстали аммоні́тяни та моаві́тяни на ме́шканців гори Сеїр, щоб учинити їх закля́ттям, і щоб вигубити. А коли вони покінчи́ли це з ме́шканцями Сеїру, стали помагати один проти о́дного, щоб ви́губити себе.

24 І коли Юда прийшов на вартівню́ до пустині, і поглянули вони на на́товп, аж ось тру́пи, що попа́дали на землю, і не було урято́ваного!

25 І прийшов Йосафат та наро́д його́, щоб пограбувати їхню здо́бич, і знайшли серед них душе багато і маєтку, і одежі, і кошто́вностей, і понабира́ли собі стільки, що не могли не́сти. І вони три дні все грабували ту здо́бич, бо числе́нна була вона!

26 А четвертого дня зібралися вони до долини Бераха, бо там благословляли Господа; тому назвали ім'я́ тому місцю: долина Бераха,і так воно зветься аж до сьогодні.

27 І вернулися всі юде́яни та єрусалимляни, а Йосафат на чолі́ їх, щоб вернутися до Єрусалиму з радістю, бо звесели́в їх Господь спасінням від їхніх ворогів.

28 І прибули́ вони до Єрусалиму з а́рфами й з ци́трами та су́рмами до Господнього дому.

29 І був Божий страх на всі царства країв, коли вони почули, що Господь воював з Ізраїлевими ворогами.

30 І заспоко́їлося Йосафатове царство, і дав йому його Бог мир навколо.

31 І царював Йосафа́т над Юдою. Він був віку тридцяти й п'яти років, коли зацарював, а двадцять і п'ять літ царював в Єрусалимі. А ім'я́ його матері — Азука, дочка́ Шілхи.

32 І ходив він дорогою свого батька Аси, і не уступа́вся з неї, щоб робити вгодне в Господніх оча́х.

33 Тільки па́гірки не минулися, і народ іще не вчинив свого серця міцни́м для Бога своїх батьків.

34 А решта Йосафатових діл, перші й останні, — ото вони описані в записах Єгу, сина Ханані, що внесене до книги Ізраїлевих царів.

35 А по то́му поєднався Йосафат, цар Юдин, з Ахазією, Ізраїлевим царем, що робив несправедливо.

36 І поєднався він із ним, щоб поробити кораблі, щоб ходити до Таршішу. І поробили вони кораблі в Ецйон-Ґевері.

37 Та Елієзер, син Додави, з Мареші, пророкував на Йосафата, говорячи: „За те, що ти поєднався з Ахазією, поруйнував Господь чи́ни твої!“ І порозбивалися ті кораблі, і не могли йти до Таршішу.

13 А всі юде́яни стояли перед Господнім лицем, також діти їхні, жінки їхні та їхні сини.

18 And Jehoshaphat3092 bowed6915 his head with his face639 to the ground:776 and all3605 Judah3063 and the inhabitants3427 of Jerusalem3389 fell5307 before6440 the LORD,3068 worshipping7812 the LORD.3068

18 І вклонився Йосафат обличчям до землі, а ввесь Юда та ме́шканці Єрусалиму попа́дали перед Господнім лицем, щоб уклони́тися Господе́ві.

20 І повставали вони рано вранці, і вийшли до пустині Текоя. А як вони вихо́дили, став Йосафа́т та й сказав: „Послухайте мене, Юдо та ме́шканці Єрусалиму! Віруйте в Господа, вашого Бога, і будете запе́внені, — ві́рте пророкам Його, і пощасти́ться вам!“

21 And when he had consulted3289 with the people,5971 he appointed5975 singers7891 to the LORD,3068 and that should praise1984 the beauty1927 of holiness,6944 as they went3318 out before6440 the army,2502 and to say,559 Praise3034 the LORD;3068 for his mercy2617 endures for ever.5769

21 І радився він з наро́дом, і поставив співакі́в для Господа, і вони хвалили вели́чність святости, коли йшли перед озбро́єними, і говорили: „Дякуйте Господу, бо навіки Його милосе́рдя!“

22 And when6256 they began2490 to sing7440 and to praise,8416 the LORD3068 set5414 ambushes693 against5921 the children1121 of Ammon,5983 Moab,4124 and mount2022 Seir,8165 which were come935 against Judah;3063 and they were smitten.5062

22 А того ча́су, коли зачали́ вони співати та хвалити, дав Господь за́сідку на синів Аммонових і Моавових та на ме́шканців гори Сеїр, що прийшли були проти Юди, — і були вони побиті,

23 For the children1121 of Ammon5983 and Moab4124 stood5975 up against5921 the inhabitants3427 of mount2022 Seir,8165 utterly to slay2763 and destroy8045 them: and when they had made an end3615 of the inhabitants3427 of Seir,8165 every376 one helped5826 to destroy4889 another.7453

23 бо повстали аммоні́тяни та моаві́тяни на ме́шканців гори Сеїр, щоб учинити їх закля́ттям, і щоб вигубити. А коли вони покінчи́ли це з ме́шканцями Сеїру, стали помагати один проти о́дного, щоб ви́губити себе.

24 And when Judah3063 came935 toward5921 the watch4707 tower in the wilderness,4057 they looked6437 to the multitude,1995 and, behold,2009 they were dead6297 bodies6297 fallen5307 to the earth,776 and none369 escaped.6413

24 І коли Юда прийшов на вартівню́ до пустині, і поглянули вони на на́товп, аж ось тру́пи, що попа́дали на землю, і не було урято́ваного!

25 And when Jehoshaphat3092 and his people5971 came935 to take962 away the spoil7998 of them, they found4672 among them in abundance7230 both riches7399 with the dead6297 bodies,6297 and precious2530 jewels,3627 which they stripped5337 off for themselves, more than369 they could carry4853 away: and they were three7969 days3117 in gathering962 of the spoil,7998 it was so much.7227

25 І прийшов Йосафат та наро́д його́, щоб пограбувати їхню здо́бич, і знайшли серед них душе багато і маєтку, і одежі, і кошто́вностей, і понабира́ли собі стільки, що не могли не́сти. І вони три дні все грабували ту здо́бич, бо числе́нна була вона!

26 And on the fourth7243 day3117 they assembled6950 themselves in the valley6010 of Berachah;1294 for there8033 they blessed1288 the LORD:3068 therefore5921 3651 the name8034 of the same1931 place4725 was called,7121 The valley6010 of Berachah,1294 to this2088 day.3117

26 А четвертого дня зібралися вони до долини Бераха, бо там благословляли Господа; тому назвали ім'я́ тому місцю: долина Бераха,і так воно зветься аж до сьогодні.

27 Then they returned,7725 every3605 man376 of Judah3063 and Jerusalem,3389 and Jehoshaphat3092 in the forefront7218 of them, to go7725 again7725 to Jerusalem3389 with joy;8057 for the LORD3068 had made them to rejoice8055 over their enemies.341

27 І вернулися всі юде́яни та єрусалимляни, а Йосафат на чолі́ їх, щоб вернутися до Єрусалиму з радістю, бо звесели́в їх Господь спасінням від їхніх ворогів.

28 And they came935 to Jerusalem3389 with psalteries5035 and harps3658 and trumpets2689 to the house1004 of the LORD.3068

28 І прибули́ вони до Єрусалиму з а́рфами й з ци́трами та су́рмами до Господнього дому.

29 And the fear6343 of God430 was on5921 all3605 the kingdoms4467 of those countries,776 when they had heard8085 that the LORD3068 fought3898 against5973 the enemies341 of Israel.3478

29 І був Божий страх на всі царства країв, коли вони почули, що Господь воював з Ізраїлевими ворогами.

30 So the realm4438 of Jehoshaphat3092 was quiet:8252 for his God430 gave him rest5117 round5439 about.

30 І заспоко́їлося Йосафатове царство, і дав йому його Бог мир навколо.

31 And Jehoshaphat3092 reigned4427 over5921 Judah:3063 he was thirty7970 and five2568 years8141 old1121 when he began to reign,4427 and he reigned4427 twenty6242 and five2568 years8141 in Jerusalem.3389 And his mother's517 name8034 was Azubah5806 the daughter1323 of Shilhi.7977

31 І царював Йосафа́т над Юдою. Він був віку тридцяти й п'яти років, коли зацарював, а двадцять і п'ять літ царював в Єрусалимі. А ім'я́ його матері — Азука, дочка́ Шілхи.

32 And he walked3212 in the way1870 of Asa609 his father,25 and departed5493 not from it, doing6213 that which was right3477 in the sight5869 of the LORD.3068

32 І ходив він дорогою свого батька Аси, і не уступа́вся з неї, щоб робити вгодне в Господніх оча́х.

33 However, the high1116 places were not taken5493 away:5493 for as yet5750 the people5971 had not prepared3559 their hearts3824 to the God430 of their fathers.1

33 Тільки па́гірки не минулися, і народ іще не вчинив свого серця міцни́м для Бога своїх батьків.

34 Now the rest3499 of the acts1697 of Jehoshaphat,3092 first7223 and last,314 behold,2009 they are written3789 in the book1697 of Jehu3058 the son1121 of Hanani,2607 who834 is mentioned5927 in the book5612 of the kings4428 of Israel.3478

35 А по то́му поєднався Йосафат, цар Юдин, з Ахазією, Ізраїлевим царем, що робив несправедливо.

36 And he joined2266 himself with him to make6213 ships591 to go3212 to Tarshish:8659 and they made6213 the ships591 in Eziongaber.6100
